How To Paint Aluminium Window

Whilst aluminium window frames are highly preferable for their durability and resistance to the elements, their shiny silver colouring is not always the best accessory for the aesthetics of our home. For this reason, a lot of people opt to paint their aluminium windows in a shade that matches the rest of their home's decor. There is a problem with this option, however, as aluminium is not porous, meaning that paint will not stick to it very well.
Before you even think about painting your aluminium windows, you will need to thoroughly clean and prep them for the process. Mix together some powdered soap with warm water and use a clean cloth to remove dirt and other debris from the frames. Use a plastic brush well lubricated with a degreaser to scrub at the aluminium surfaces. Then, rinse the windows with a hose or damp rag and let the whole area dry for at least forty-eight hours. To protect the glass and the surrounding wall, cover the surfaces adjoining the window with masking tape and place a drop cloth on the ground below.
You will need to apply a galvanized metal etching primer to your aluminium window frames using a latex paintbrush. A lot of people also like to mix about half a litre of paint thinner to just under four litres of primer to help it take to the aluminium window and dry faster. This will help the paint to seep into the metal frame and prevent it from peeling off over time. Leave the primer to dry and cure for at least four hours, ensuring that you thoroughly wash the paintbrush you used with clean water.
After the primer has completely dried, you can start applying a coat of an acrylic latex paint to your aluminium windows in your choice of colour. Using the same latex paintbrush that you used earlier is fine. Leave the paint to dry for at least two hours. You may want to apply additional coats of paint, depending on how your windows look and the quality of the brush strokes. Once the paint is dry, remove the masking tape from the window and surrounding wall.
As long as you apply the proper primer over your aluminium windows and allow it sufficient time to dry before apply your paint, this whole process is a relatively easy and painless one. It can easily be completed in a weekend, taking your home instantly from drab to fab.

How To Fix Common Problems With Aluminum Windows And Doors

When people talk about aluminium windows and doors for use in your home, they will often tell you that they are 'maintenance free' and that 'all you have to do is install them and leave them'. This, however, is not entirely true, as some maintenance is needed to keep aluminium frames damage free. Otherwise, some of the below problems may occur.

Blocked Outlets

This can prove to be highly damaging to aluminium windows and doors over time, as it can cause condensation to build up on the surface. Whenever you are cleaning your windows and doors, you should check the outlets for dirt and other obstructions, being sure to clean them out.

Deteriorating Frame Joint Seals

This is usually due to the age of the frames or to the thermal expansion of the seals and is bad for aluminium windows and doors because it could allow moisture to get in. Some frames have removable exterior glazing beads; if yours do, remove the rubber and beads for cleaning, apply a bead sealant and then replace them.

Pitting

Neglecting to clean windows and doors can lead to corrosion of the frames over time. This actually shortens the life of your aluminium windows and doors so should be avoided at all costs. You can repair pitting by cleaning, sanding and repainting your aluminium frames, being sure to carefully follow the paint manufacturer's instructions.

Powder Coat Chalking

This is likely to occur to aluminium frames due to age. To help keep your powder coated finishes looking newer for longer, simply apply a vinyl restoring solution or a light oil to the surface after cleaning. This treatment can also help to reduce the effect of chalking that has already occurred.

Scratches

Noticing scratches on the surface of your aluminium window and doors is not a big drama, as they will not affect the performance of your frames. If, however, you do not like the appearance of scratches on your windows and doors, simply buff the surface by applying a vinyl restorative or light oil.

Window Sashes Won't Open

The most common reasons for this occurring are if the sash is twisted, if the friction stays are too tight, or if the building has settled and the aluminium frame has swollen. If the friction stays are too tight, it is easily fixed by loosening or replacing them. Unfortunately, if the sash has twisted you will need a professional to repair it (as you are likely to break the glass if you try). You will also need a professional repair if the issue is due to the building settling (as there is construction work involved).

How To Choose Practical Aluminium Doors & Windows

Aluminium doors and windows are a great choice for any home because not only do they look great on all types of architecture, but are also eminently practical and resilient in all types of weather conditions. By choosing the right products you can reach a solution that offers high security, weather protection and insulation, as well as ease of use. You can choose to use a system of bifolds throughout your house, or simply opt for a set of windows complete with security panels.
If you want to choose extremely practical windows and doors for your home, you will have to determine your needs, in terms of usage and the demands of the space. These demands might include high heating and cooling costs, which can be solved with well insulated materials. Choose double glazed glass panels in your aluminium frames, as well as secure construction and installation to save energy and money.
The construction of your frames and panels is extremely important to their long term performance and durability. Flimsy aluminium doors will provide little protection and resistance against external conditions whereas well made products, classed as heavy duty, should last the life of your house. Make sure your chosen products are durable, strong and provide high thermal insulation.
When trying to distinguish between different aluminium windows, there are a few measurements and standards that can help you to make a more informed decision. One of these is the insulating value used to judge all doors. Checking the insulation value is especially important for glass fittings as the large expanses of glass can typically make preventing heat transfer from outside to in more difficult. The 'U-factor' measures the rate of heat flow through a window and low U-factors indicate a reduced heat flow and stronger insulation.
Remember that there is no need to sacrifice beautiful views or your sense of style when looking for products with practical benefits. The best aluminium windows combine all the practical features you need, such as high security, compact size and smooth movement, with clean lines and polished finishes to get your house looking at its best.

Luckily, with these modern products, you can have all the features you need, without worrying about high maintenance to keep the door looking bright and clean all year round. All your frames should need is a wipe down with soapy water!

Replacement Windows - Many Reasons To Do It Now

Home Renovation In Selangor - Windows
There are many reasons you might need replacement windows on your home. The most important is fast becoming energy saving and cost reduction. Just be sure to do your homework first so you get the best value for your investment.

You may want to replace or upgrade the windows on your home for many reasons, but in today's environmentally charged climate, saving money (by saving energy) ranks at or near the top. It doesn't matter what type of windows are on your home now, newer replacement windows are likely far more efficient than those you currently have.

Newer windows are at a minimum double-paned (also known as double-glazed) and in some cases even triple-paned. Each space between windows provides for more insulation (because the trapped gas, usually argon, is a great insulator). It's much like layering your clothes on a cold Mid-Atlantic region wintry day. The more layers, the more trapped air, and hence, the warmer you feel.
Home Renovation In Selangor - Windows
Newer replacement windows also have better seals where the window frame is joined and when newly installed, come with improved sealing around the window and where it meets the wall of your home. All of these act to lessen heat loss. But they also reduce noise and decrease condensation on your inside window pane. If condensation is or has been occurring around your windows, you will want to check for any water damage at the time you put in the replacement windows.

And, replacement windows can also give your home a whole new look. But it is the energy angle that really drives what most people think about when it comes to window replacement. Most of us are familiar with R-values. These are how insulation and other components used to create the home's envelope are rated for resisting heat loss.

But windows are different than insulation nestled between the walls. Windows let in light and allow us to see out. They interact with outside and inside air temperatures, sunlight and wind and they connect with us directly. Solar radiation (i.e., sunlight) also warms the windows and its framing even on cold winter days. This creates stresses that try to break the seals within and around the window.

As a result, the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) has developed a system for uniformly rating window efficiency. Started in 1993, the system is used in the U.S. and elsewhere in the world. There are 5 aspects to the rating system that you want to look for when choosing the best replacement windows.

The five factors are:

1. U-factor or ability to prevent heat loss from a home. This rating is usually most important in winter months and addresses the rate of heat loss. Values range from 0.20 to 1.20 and lower numbers are best.

2. Solar Heat Gain Coefficient describes how well the window works at blocking heat gain. Described in a range of 0 to 1, lower numbers are best.

3. Visible Transmittance tells how much light comes through a window. The higher the number (ranging between 0 and 1), the better the potential for daytime lighting.

4. Air Leakage measures air movement through a product. Here we are talking about the whole window unit, not just the window panes. Values range from 0.1 to 0.3. And lower numbers are best.

5. Condensation Resistance tells how well the product resists condensation on the inside of your window. Values range between 1 and 100, with higher numbers being better.
Be sure you don't just buy the least expensive replacement windows. You want your replacement windows to deliver long-term service for you and for anyone who may buy your home in the future. So, save the rating information and use it when marketing your home.

Do your homework comparing different brands of replacement windows and their ability to save you money. Then get a reliable installer, to get you started on realizing your return on your investment. For renovation work in Selangor, Feel free to contact 012-2988560.

Casement Windows: What They Are

House Renovation In Selangor - Casement Windows
Casement windows are windows that open and close like a door, which swings open and closed by its hinges. The main parts of the window are the frame, hinges, and a crank which is the handle which controls the mechanism to open and close. The window can be hung or installed on the left or right to open out.

A casement window can be one that swings inwards or outwards; however, people tend to avoid the type that swings inward due to space concerns. Those that swings inwards tend to take up more space on the inside, so a small room can easily become even smaller. Plus, it is more difficult to decorate the place with an inward style because the window becomes an obstruction, so if an owner would like to put window coverings like blinds, sheers or draperies, this cannot be done unless the window is always left open. On the brighter side, they are much easier to clean since you will be able to reach both sides of the glass without needing to stretch.
House Renovation In Selangor - Casement Windows
Casement windows that swing outwards are more popular for the reason the inward style is unpopular for. In fact, they not only safe space, but because of the design that opens wide at an angle, even if the window is located at an area with minimal ventilation, wind can be directed into the building instead of flowing past the window. However, they are not as easy to clean like the one that swings inward, but later designs have made it possible to swing the glass so that one can easily clean both sides.

Although they are not as popular as they used to be, there are many replacement casement windows available in different materials, styles and colors. Some of the materials one can find are wood, metal, aluminum, vinyl, and fiberglass, which have their own advantages and disadvantages. They each give a different look to the window for different styles. And although back then cranks were very obvious and aesthetically out of place, some of these handles use lever styles instead that some may approve of instead. Nevertheless, because of the crank mechanism that is easy to use, this type of window works best with hard to reach places like above the cabinet or countertops. Many replacement casement windows are made available as there are people who prefer the benefits the window brings.

We cater from small to big type of home and office renovation in Selangor and design based on customer's requirement. For  enquiries, pls contact us 012-2988560.
