The replacement windows reviews come in different formats. There are
several factors that are considered. I have previously shared about these in my
other write-ups but today I want to consolidate the key points and provide a
one-stop article that will put it all together. I will provide a review of some
of the important things to consider when thinking about replacing your windows.
Energy Efficiency
Having an energy efficient replacement window is important especially if
you want to save over the long-term. The reviews around this include checking
the window certification by trusted authorities like Energy Star. In Terms of
brands you can think Milgard, Polaris, Simonton to name just a few.
Material
When reviewing replacement windows the type of material used is also
important. There are 3 general options I like to discuss. That is, wood, vinyl
and fiberglass. Fiberglass is more durable than vinyl, wood replacement windows
work well for a wood oriented house but they are a bit more expensive. Vinyl is
the most popular especially those from Pella, Hayfield and Anderson.
Ratings
Ratings also are the most important aspect of the replacement window
reviews. You can use consumer ratings or alternatively check out the National
Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC).
Weather conditions
You must also review windows in terms of weather resistance. For example
there are storm windows, which are rated using the AAMA air infiltration
rating. You can check out Hurd, or Marvin but make sure your local supplier is
not misleading you to buy the most expensive but useful storm window.
Price
It is general knowledge that the pricier a brand is the better it is.
Well for some this is true. For example, Pella and Anderson windows are known
to be a bit expensive but they are good quality replacement windows.
Experience of supplier
It is important to go for a supplier or manufacture who has been around
for a longer time. I once wrote an article about a company that was new - sold
a friend of mine some windows and when they developed a problem he tried to
locate them but they had closed shopped. Pella has been around for more than 70
years, Milgard too and many others. Do take this into consideration in your
reviews.
Customer service
The other day I reviewed a couple of windows and Polybau windows were
one of the best except that a member of my site had just had a bad experience
with them. I realized how important it is to consider customer service over and
beyond all else.
Quality of brands
We can talk about price, experience and all that but if a replacement
window is not a quality one then it is not worth buying. How would you know a
quality window especially if you don't have much knowledge about windows? Use
the ratings as mentioned earlier and check out some few consumer reports
online. Do not let the sales rep convince you. In my opinion they are not the
best source of information.
Warranty
A company that offers a warranty means it has confidence about the
quality and durability of its product. This is another way of finding out about
the quality of the brand you are thinking of buying.
Proximity of supplier
It is important to have your windows replacement supplier located near your
area. This will make your project much cheaper as you will save a lot on
transport costs - directly and indirectly.
